Eric Smith – Editor

Eric is a literary agent and Young Adult author who has worked on award-winning and New York Times bestselling books.

Overview

Hi Reedsy!

With over a decade of experience in publishing under my belt, from working at a publishing house to my career as an agent to writing actual books, I'm a full time book person. Other hobbies would be great, but words are my jam.

I would love to help you edit or craft your book proposal, polish up that query letter, or dig into a novel you need an extra set of eyes on. I specialize in Young Adult fiction, genre-blending adult fiction, and non-fiction across the board, having worked on memoirs, cookbooks, essay collections, and more.

Please note, if you're planning to query me, it's best you not hire me on here. That blurs some complicated lines.

Eric responded immediately, was both super helpful and supportive. He offered an online live meeting as well as numerous edits and answers to my various questions, and he always answered very quickly. He's also really warm and supportive--I not only felt like my work was so much better, but actually not as worried about sending it out. And while he is very professional, it was both reassuring a...

I wasn't having luck querying, so I hired Eric to assess my query packages for the weak link, read a novel, edit its synopsis, and write a fresh query letter. He went above and beyond with his input, leaving me clear on what was working and energized about what my next steps were. His skillset matched what I'd been missing, and his enthusiasm was delightfully refreshing. On a very helpful zoom ...

I had the pleasure of working with Eric Smith on the development of my first middle grade novel, and I couldn’t have asked for a better editorial experience. Eric’s considerable knowledge of the genre, and his keen eye for stakes was exactly what my story needed. He pinpointed the moments where my characters could have easily walked away from the adventure and provided insightful guidance on ho...
